Curriculum
At Levon & Hasmig Tavlian Preschool and Kindergarten, our curriculum is built on developmentally appropriate practices with a thematic approach. Our program is designed to adapt to the developmental needs of each child, based on Jean Piaget’s Preconception and Intuitive stages of development. This approach recognizes that children develop in an orderly and predictable manner, each at their own pace and with their own unique learning style.
Our levels of curriculum account for natural maturation, the experiences children gain as they grow older, and their inherent logical progression. We embrace an eclectic approach, with classrooms organized around interest centers, providing a balanced mix of child-initiated and teacher-directed activities. This structure allows children plenty of opportunities for exploration and outdoor play.
1. In our preschool program, we focus on five key developmental learning domains:
Cognitive Development: Engaging activities in mathematics, science, social studies, health, and other academic areas.
Social Development: Opportunities to develop social skills such as cooperation, helping, and negotiation.
Physical Development: Daily activities that promote the use of large muscles through running, jumping, and balancing.
Language Development: Pre-reading skills in both Armenian and English.
Creative Development: Daily opportunities for artistic expression and appreciation through art and music.
Our well-rounded curriculum ensures that each child can grow and develop across multiple domains, fostering a love for learning and personal growth.
Teacher-Child Ratio
The following teacher – child ratios exceed the minimum requirements set by the State Department of Social Services:
- 2-3 year olds / one adult to every 6-7 children (toilet training not required)
- 3-4 year olds / one adult to every 8-9 children.
- 4-5 year olds / one adult to every 8-10 children.
- 5-6 year olds / one adult to every 12 children.
